The city of Wichita is located in the state of Kansas, United States. Wichita lies in Sedgwick County and is also the county seat of the same. According to the 2006 estimates, the population of the city stands at 361,420, which makes it the most populous city in the state of Kansas and the 51st most populous city in the United States.

As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers an area of 138.9 square miles, of which 135.7 square miles is land. The city was incorporated in the year 1870 and is popularly known as the 'Air Capital of the World'. This is because many aircraft pioneer had begun their projects in this city. Many aircraft corporations were found in the city, such as 'Stearman', 'Cessna', 'Mooney' and 'Beech'.. Even today, many aircraft corporations are based here, such as 'Learjet', 'Spirit AeroSystems', 'Cessna' and 'Hawker Beechcraft'.

The 'Orpheum Theater' and the 'Century II Convention Hall' are popular venues for cultural performances in the city.

The city is also home to the 'Wichita River Festival', which is arguably the longest continuous-running festival in the state of Kansas and features over 70 events of different types, such as musical entertainment, sporting events, traveling exhibits, cultural and historical activities, plays, interactive children's events, a flea market, river events, a parade and block parties. Wichita also boasts of a rich sporting culture and there are many reputed sport clubs from this city, such as the baseball team 'Wichita Wingnuts', the hockey team 'Wichita Thunder' and the indoor football club 'Wichita Wild'. Another popular sport in this city is disc golf and the city is laden with disc golf courses.
