The city of Wheeling is located in the state of West Virginia, United States. Wheeling lies mostly in the Ohio County and is also the county seat of the same. However, a part of the city does lie in the Marshall County. According to the 2000 census, the population of the city was estimated to be 31,419. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 15.8 square miles, of which 87.93% is land and 12.07% is water.

Wheeling falls in the northern side of West Virginia and is just 11 miles away from the state of Pennsylvania. The famous and picturesque Wheeling Creek flows through the city. The 'Center Market' is located in the central area of the city and used to be the former market house of the city. The city boasts of numerous municipal parks, such as the 'Oglebay Resort & Conference Center' and the 'Wheeling Park'. The famous 'Wheeling Suspension Bridge', which at one point of time used to be the longest suspension bridge in the entire world, is also located in this city. The city also has a 12,000 square foot large concrete skateboard park.

The Capitol Music Hall is said to be the cultural center of the city. The Music Hall was found in the year 1928 and over the years, many legendary artists have performed at this venue, such as 'Johnny Cash', 'June Carter-Cash', 'Merle Haggard', 'Tammy Wynette' and the 'Joneses'. It is the largest theater in the entire state and has a seating arrangement for 2,500 people.

The city also has a rich sporting culture. The popular ECHL ice-hockey team 'Wheeling Nailers' is from this city. Racing is a popular sport in this city and the 'Wheeling Island Racetrack' is also located here
