The city of Stillwater is located in the state of Oklahoma United States. Stillwater falls in the Payne County and is the county seat of the same. According to the 2000 United States Census, the population of the city stands at 39,065.

Stillwater is often regarded as a satellite exburb of the Oklahoma City and is situated northeast of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. The city is renowned for being a great place to live in. In fact, an Oklahoma-based magazine and the golf magazine 'Golf Digest' also named it as the 'friendliest city in the state' and the 'best place to retire and play golf', respectively. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 28.3 square miles, of which 98.38% is land.

The largest employer of the city is the Oklahoma State University, which is considered the cultural center of the city. Stillwater is a popular tourist location and features a number of attractions, such as its many strip malls and shopping centers.

The biggest attraction of the city is the famous bar district, namely 'The Strip'. A large number of bars are located in and around this area. These bars are also popular music performance venues and are considered to be a major reason behind the success of Stillwater bands all over the country. A number of famous rock bands, such as 'Kunek', 'All-American Rejects', 'Jason Boland' and 'Colourmusic' have their roots in this city.

The city has a popular golfing culture and there are many golf courses scattered all over the city. Other attractions in the city are the 'Shreerar Museum' and the 'Oklahoma Botanical Garden and Arboretum.
