Background - Saint Johns Red Storm
Center Mohamed Diakite was granted an additional year of eligibility because of medical reasons. The 6-10 Diakite, who has some starting experience in his career, was limited to 15 games last year while recovering from a neck injury. Forward Lamont Hamilton is another returnee with some experience under his belt. The 6-9 sophomore averaged 18.3 minutes last season and posted averages of 5.9 points and 4.2 boards. He could also see some playing time at center.

 Another 6-9 sophomore forward, Tyler Jones, saw action in 12.4 minutes per contest. He averaged 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds. Forward Phil Missere, a walk-on, was pressed into action after the suspensions. He performed admirably, averaging 5.3 points and 5.4 rebounds. Ryan Williams, a rugged 6-6 junior college transfer, will make a strong bid for a starting position at forward.
Roberts will look to his recruiting class for some immediate help. To find a partner for Hill in the backcourt, Roberts will choose among freshmen Dexter Gray, Cedric Jackson and Eugene Lawrence. Junior college transfer Rodney Epperson, a 6-7 forward, will press for a starting position. Another JUCO, 6-4 Jermaine Mayback, will contend at small forward and shooting guard. Lots of new faces for the Storm coming on board but the rebuilding process could take some time. In the meantime, small wins will be a big deal for awhile.
