‘Cannonsburg’ is an unincorporated community that is located in the premises of Cannon Township in the US state of Michigan. The settlement at Cannonsburg was founded on an old Native American trail in the year 1842. This event transpired at the time when the area was still in the premises of Plainfield Township.
Edwin B. Bostwick, along with architect H.T Judson were responsible for the erection of the mills in the year 1845. As an inducement to the settlement, the community was platted in the year 1848.
LeGrand Cannon, who was the steamboat financier from Troy, New York and Bostwick, who was a business agent of the railroad line were given very strong instructions that they would provide each resident with plenty of facilities (a lot), but the facilities were not otherwise provided for.
Later 25 plots were given away. As a result, the town was named in honor of LeGrand Cannon. The name of the town was soon changed to Cannonsburg after its largest settlement of all time. It is a fact that Cannonsburg had been at the core of township business for years, but due to a gradual shift of the population of the township to the north of Michigan State, it started gradually losing its importance as the center of business ventures.
Rogue River Tavern, Kent County Fairgrounds and Fifth Third Ballpark - Home of the West Michigan Whitecaps, are some of the famous entertainment venues of the city.
