‘Benton Harbor’ is a city cum Berrien County of Michigan State in the USA. It is one of the lesser populated regions of the two principal cities of Niles-Benton Harbor, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is remembered for being administrative home of Whirlpool Corporation that is today a largest producer of home appliances in the world.

Shiloh House is one of its main sites of attraction. It was built in 1910, and was once used as an administrative building and men's dormitory. Eleazar Morton built Morton House (on Morton Hill) in 1849 that now houses a museum. The city is home to a 300-acre wildlife sanctuary, Sarett Nature Center that has trails, interpretative building and Jean Klock Park on Lake Michigan. Benton Harbor and the City of St. Joseph are locally known as ‘Twin Cities.’

Henry C. Morton, Sterne Brunson and Charles Hull co-founded Benton Harbor city. It is bordered by the Paw Paw River. A canal has been built through the city hence the ‘harbor’ in the city's name came is there. It was given the name of Brunson Harbor in 1863. This name was changed into Benton Harbor in 1865 to honour a Missouri Senator, Thomas Hart Benton, who advocated for statehood status of Michigan. Benton Harbor was a village in 1866 that got incorporated as city in 1891.

As per the US Census Bureau, this city has a total area of 4.5 square miles, of which 4.4 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. According to the 2000 census its population is 11,182, and it has 3,767 households. Its population density is 2,545.7 per square mile and it has 4,492 housing units at an average density of 1,022.7/sq mi. Its racial makeup is 92.40% African Americans, 5.48% Whites, 0.15% Native Americans, 0.13% Asians, 0.04% Pacific Islanders, 0.14% from other races and 1.65% from two or more races. Its Hispanic or Latino population is 0.58%.

The sex ratio of this city is 83.3 males for every 100 females, whereas there are 72.7 males for every 100 females aged 18 and above.
