‘Beaumont’ city is a county seat of Jefferson County in Texas. It is situated within the Beaumont–Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is the main industrial area on Gulf Coast with Port Arthur and Orange forming its Golden Triangle.

This city is home to US luminaries and establishments. Lamar University is based to Beaumont. Prominent regional newspaper, The Beaumont Enterprise is published from here. Beaumont was the headquarters of The Gulf States Utilities until 1993. It was home to the South Texas State Fair since 1907. Henry Millard dedicated this city to his deceased wife, Natchez, Mississippi, belle Mary Dewburleigh Barlace Warren Beaumont. Millard visited Texas in 1835, and took possession of some land here from Tevis Bluff and Santa Anna. He founded Beaumont on that property.

Beaumont was turned into a city on December 16, 1838. Joseph Perkins Pulsifer was one of its founding citizens. His firm, J.P. Pulsifer and Company donated the first 50 acres of land for this purpose. Alexander Calder was made its first mayor. A small center for the cattle raisers and farmers was developed here that became an important lumber and rice-milling town in 1800. Joseph Eloi Broussard developed the Beaumont Rice Mill in 1892. It was the first commercial rice mill of Texas. Rebuilding and expansion of railroads began here in 1800 after the Civil War.

It was on January 10, 1901 that oil was discovered here at the nearby Spindletop that was the main oilfield and one of the largest in the American history. The population of this city grew tremendously from 3,296 in 1890 to 9,427 in 1900 with the discovery of oil. It is the main export of this city.

Beaumont and its surrounding areas suffered damages from Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Ike in 2005 and 2008. According to the 2000 Census reports, this city has the population of 113,866. The US Census Bureau describes that it has a total area of 85.9 square miles, of which 85.0 square miles is land and 0.9 square miles is water.
