The city of ‘Aiken’ that is located in South Carolina, United States is the county seat of Aiken County. It is the official home to the University of South Carolina at Aiken. The National Civic League recognized the city with the All-America City Award in the year 1997.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.2 square miles (41.9 km²), of which, 16.2square miles (41.9 km²) of it is land and 0.06% is water.

According to the census that was done in the year 2000,

“There were 25,337 people, 10,287 households and 6,758 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,566.3 people per square mile (604.6/km²). There were 11,373 housing units at an average density of 703.1/sq mi (271.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 66.63% White, 30.30% African American, 0.25% Native American, 1.28% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.49% of the population.”

History:
The city was founded in the early 1800s and was named for William Aiken, who was a banker and used to work in Charleston.
The city started gaining a lot of fame in the late 1800s. It became immensely popular as a wintering spot particularly for rich people who used to come from the northeast part of the country. Aiken has hosted a lot of famous people over the past many years.
